SINOPSE:
Filmo as minhas avós na sua despedida: as suas mãos, o seu retrato, a cadência de uma voz que se desvanece. Elas entram na objetiva da minha câmara como quem escreve um testamento. Quero registar a sua memória. A fragilidade de uma imagem ao longo do tempo obriga-me a encontrar o mecanismo que mantém o passado vivo no rosto das minhas bisavós. Nesse espaço habitado pelas memórias, um arquivo familiar torna-se um arquivo nacional. Como uma promessa, o património é uma
barriga gigante onde outras avós já nos levaram.
SYNOPSIS:
I film my grandmothers in their farewell: their hands, their portrait, the cadence of a fading voice. They enter into my camera lens like one who is writing a testament. I want to record their memory. The fragility of an image over time forces me to find the mechanism that keeps the past alive in the face of my great-grandmothers. In that space inhabited by memories, a family archive becomes a national archive. Like a promise, the heritage is a
giant belly where other grandmothers once carried us.

Carla Valdés León (Cuba, 1993) é cineasta e curadora. Realizou as curtas-metragens documentais Los Puros (2021), Prémio Coral no 42º Festival de Cinema de Havana, e Días de Diciembre (2016), premiada na Muestra Joven ICAIC. A sua longa-metragem La línea del ombligo (Linha do Umbigo) estreou em dezembro de 2024 no 45º Festival de Cinema de Havana. Os seus filmes foram exibidos em festivais na Europa, na América Latina e nos EUA. Atualmente, é curadora do Festival INSULARIA, nas Ilhas Canárias.

Carla Valdés León (Cuba, 1993) filmmaker and curator. She has directed the short documentaries Los Puros (2021), Coral Prize at the 42nd Havana Film Festival, and Días de Diciembre (2016), awarded at Muestra Joven ICAIC. Her feature film La línea del ombligo (Navel Line) premiered in December 2024 at the 45th Havana Film Festival. Her films have been shown at festivals in Europe, Latin America and the USA. She is currently curator of the INSULARIA Festival in the Canary Islands.
